About cAlliances

cAlliances grew out of more than 15 years of working with professionals in Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area—and a much longer experience watching how changes in technology, corporations, government, and the economy affect people's lives.

We believe artificial intelligence is beginning another major transformation of the world of work. History suggests that transformations of this magnitude can be disruptive, but they can also ultimately increase productivity, opportunity, and human flourishing.

Our purpose is to help people navigate that transformation together—and help shape it for the benefit of everyone.

Why We See the World This Way

Our perspective comes from seeing economic change from several very different vantage points.

A community left behind. Founder AL Hulvey grew up in a Pennsylvania steel-mill town and saw what happened when an industry declined and people who had built their lives around it struggled to transition.

When corporations developed people. Early in his career, AL spent 14 years with a major corporation, holding seven different positions. Companies invested heavily in developing employees and moving them into new responsibilities—an experience increasingly uncommon today.

The Fortune 500. Beginning in the 1980s, he worked in corporate strategy as large companies increasingly looked to acquisitions, restructuring, and other approaches to improve performance—changes that often affected employees as well as shareholders.

Washington. As an officer of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, he saw how government, business, public policy, and organized interests interact in shaping the economic environment.

Silicon Valley. A decade working with startups provided another perspective: small groups of talented people, combined with new technology, can challenge organizations many times their size.

Faith and ministry. cAlliances was founded by AL Hulvey, a former deacon at Menlo Church and co-founder of its Career Actions job ministry, which he has led since 2009. cAlliances is a Christ-centered ministry of Oak Grove Christian Ministries (OGCM), a 501(c)(3). OGCM →

Together, those experiences shaped a simple conviction: when the world of work changes dramatically, people need better ways to navigate the change together.

Why AI Is Different

We believe AI represents a generational transformation—not simply another new technology.

We don't know exactly where it will lead. There will be disruption, mistakes, risks, and opportunities we cannot yet foresee. But previous technological transformations have ultimately expanded what people can accomplish.

We believe AI can do the same.

The question isn't simply what AI will do to us. It is what people will choose to do with AI.

Why cAlliances

cAlliances is our response to that question.

We bring together small groups of people who know and respect one another, give them access to credible information and AI-supported capabilities, and create a culture in which they help one another—and others—without keeping score.

Our goal is not simply to help people survive the AI transformation.

It is to help people participate in shaping it—so that this extraordinary new capability contributes to greater human flourishing.

Why alliances work

Alliances for the AI world

The Ability to Navigate Exponential Change Better
An Alliance combines a small, trusted team with AI-supported intelligence and organizational capabilities once available mainly to much larger organizations. It can adapt rapidly while the continuing relationships among members provide stability.

The Freedom to Choose a Meaningful Purpose
Many people don't get to choose what they do and how they do it. An alliance lets people choose the cause they are passionate about. Research shows this is one of the most important factors that leads to a joyful and meaningful life.

The Opportunity to Shape How Your Alliance Works
Every cAlliance shares foundational commitments: helping unconditionally, following through together, making every voice matter, seeking truth, and supporting and celebrating one another. Within that foundation, members shape their own practices and charter—creating an alliance worth showing up for every week.
